New Delhi, 4th Nov. A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4 struck Nepal on Friday night, causing tremors in parts of north India, including the national capital region.
The earthquake occurred at 11:32 pm, forcing people to quickly leave their homes as they were getting ready for the weekend.
According to the National Centre for Seismology, the epicenter of the earthquake was in Nepal, approximately 227 km north of Ayodhya and 331 km west northwest of Kathmandu.
The quake had a focal depth of 10 km.
The tremors lasted for a significant amount of time, interrupting activities such as watching television and enjoying the weekend, said Inderjit Singh, a resident of Gurugram.
Gopal, a resident of Ghaziabad, reported feeling the tremors for more than 15 seconds and hearing the rattling of window panes.
This is the third time in a month that Nepal has experienced strong earthquakes.
The latest earthquake was also felt in Noida and Greater Noida, neighboring Delhi, causing residents of high-rise buildings to evacuate.
Pratyush Singh, a resident of a group housing society in Sector 76 Noida, described the tremors as strong and frightening.
People took to social media to share videos of objects like fans and chandeliers moving due to the shaking. Some even brought their pets with them as they evacuated their homes.
Rupesh Upadhyay, a resident of a high-rise apartment in Noida said that at first, he thought the tremors were caused by a passing vehicle. However, he soon noticed the shaking ceiling fan and realized it was an earthquake. The tremors continued for a while.
