Imphal, 19th Oct. Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey visited the relief camps set up in Churachandpur’s Songel ECA Church and Tuibong ECA Church, as well as the relief camps set up at Bishnupur’s Fubala High School. She talked with the victims in the camps and listened to their concerns.
In the camps of Churachandpur and Bishnupur, the Governor distributed relief materials received by the Red Cross Society, including blankets, hygiene kits, kitchen sheds, musketon nets etc. Along with this, cash money was also given to pregnant women on behalf of Raj Bhavan. Biscuits, chocolates and other beverages were distributed to the children.
She inspected the rooms in the relief camps and saw the facilities available. She asked the camp dwellers that if they have any problem, if they are not getting any facility, they can tell her. The victims said that almost all facilities are available.
After her stay in both the districts, the Governor held a meeting with the representatives of social organizations, students of medical colleges, employees of Manipur University and other people and listened to their problems and suggestions.
The students said that now the winter season has come, so there should be proper arrangement of clothes, arms should be confiscated, a solution should be found to the problem, the dead bodies of the dead should be given and necessary items should be supplied.
Earlier, on reaching Churachandpur, a large number of women at the beginning of the city requested the Governor to stop and listen to them. Understanding their feelings, the Governor stopped the vehicle and listened to them and addressed them.
The Governor said that she is aware of their problems, sorrows and is making efforts to solve them, has informed the Government of India and necessary instructions have been given to the Government of Manipur, Chief Secretary. Efforts are being made by all to resolve it soon.
In her address, the Governor said that in the national meeting of the Red Cross Committee in Delhi in June last year, she had requested the President to send as much relief material as possible in view of the situation in Manipur, on which the health minister was directed to send the material to Manipur.
The Governor said that the victims of the violence, whose houses have been destroyed, will be given assistance of Rs 10-7-5 lakh according to the accommodation. The Government of India and the Government of Manipur are making all efforts to establish peace in the state and send you back to your homes. The government has directed to take strict action against those who illegally occupy your houses, property, temples.
She said, “I have asked the government to ensure the education of children, medical facilities, preparation of your destroyed documents and your security arrangements in the state. Now we all have to put an end to hatred and violence from the state. I have travelled to both sides, that is, Kuki and Maitai camps, all want to establish peace and go back to their homes. May all of you be patient and cooperate to establish peace and harmony.”
She appealed that you people should not take the law into your own hands, contact the police administration for any problem. Don’t pay attention to rumours. Give your full support to the police and general administration, only then harmony, law and order situation will be established in the state.
Secretary and Joint Secretary Raj Bhavan, DC Churachandpur, SPs of both the districts, officials arranging camps, officials of social organizations, victims living in camps were present in this stay.
