Bhopal, 17th Aug. Union Home Minister and senior BJP leader Amit Shah will release the Madhya Pradesh government’s report card on Sunday in Bhopal and then address the BJP’s working committee meeting in Gwalior, a party functionary said on Thursday.

On August 20, Shahji will arrive in Bhopal and release the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government’s report card. Following that, he will travel to Gwalior to chair and address the working committee meeting, said a state BJP senior who did not wish to be identified.

BJP insiders said party MLAs, MPs, district presidents and general secretaries have been told to reach Gwalior. Around 1,200 office-bearers have been called to the meeting where the party is expected to come out with its final plan for the polls, they said.

The assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh will likely be held in a few months.

We want to increase our movement in Gwalior, the erstwhile kingdom of the Scindias, the BJP leader said.

According to political observers, the BJP is working hard to put on a good display in Gwalior and the Chambal region, especially after losing the Gwalior mayoral elections to the Congress last year for the first time in 57 years.

Shah’s visit to the state will be his second in less than a month. On July 30, Shah paid a visit to the Indore district, where he spoke to booth-level workers. The Congress won 26 of the 34 seats in the Gwalior and Chambal region in the 2018 assembly elections. Jyotiraditya Scindia was a member of the Congress at the time.

After Scindia and his supporters defected to the BJP, the Congress could win only 7 of the 19 seats in the Gwalior and Chambal region bypolls in November 2020. However, following its defeat in the Gwalior municipal elections last year, the BJP is unwilling to take any chances, according to a political observer.
