New Delhi, 3rd July. Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal on Monday slammed the BJP for inducting NCP leader Ajit Pawar and eight others into the Eknath Shinde-led Maharashtra cabinet, saying “first attack the corrupt and then embrace” them.

On Sunday, Ajit Pawar led a shocking revolt in the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), causing a vertical split, and joined the ruling Shiv Sena-BJP coalition in Maharashtra to become deputy chief minister.

In a tweet, Sibal said, “First attack the corrupt, then embrace the corrupt. First guarantee their investigation, then get a warranty for their support. Investigation in suspension. Henceforth ED, CBI: No tension. Sounds familiar? Mother of democracy at work!”

Ajit Pawar was sworn in as the deputy chief minister by Governor Ramesh Bais at a ceremony conducted at the Raj Bhawan in Mumbai on Sunday, after weeks of speculation about the senior NCP leader’s next political move and surprising his uncle Sharad Pawar.

Eight more NCP leaders took oath as ministers in the Shinde-Fadnavis government, some of them are close allies to Sharad Pawar, the 83-year-old Maratha strongman who expects to become a crucial player in an anti-BJP front.

Kapil Sibal had taken a jibe at PM Narendra Modi on Sunday over the Ajit Pawar revolt, saying probably this is “the mother of democracy” that PM Modi talked about in his address to the United States Congress.
