Congress Candidate Leading by 6,000 Votes in Tamil Nadu’s Erode

Erode, 2nd March. After the first round of vote counting in the Erode East Assembly by-election, Congress candidate E V K S Elangovan led his nearest rival K S Thennarasu (AIADMK) by over 6,000 votes.

While 77 candidates are running, the main contest is between former Union Minister E V K S Elangovan of the Congress, who is backed by the ruling DMK, and AIADMK legislator K S Thennarasu.

N Menaka of Naam Tamilar Katchi and S Anand of DMDK are among the other candidates.

According to officials, tight security was provided in and around the counting center.

The byelection was called after Congress MLA E Thirumagan Everaa died on January 4.

The by-election held on February 27 received nearly 75% of the vote.
