Amravati, 18th Jan. In a shocking incident in Retyakheda village, Amravati district, a 77-year-old woman was allegedly subjected to brutal assault, forced to drink urine, and branded with an iron rod by her neighbours who suspected her of practising black magic. The incident, which took place on December 30, has only come to light after the victim’s son and daughter-in-law filed a complaint earlier this month, demanding action from senior officials.

According to the complaint, the elderly woman was alone at home when she was attacked by villagers who accused her of practicing black magic. The assailants reportedly beat her with a wooden stick, slapped her, and branded her with hot iron rods on her hands and legs. Disturbingly, they also forced her to drink urine and consume dog excreta before parading her around the village with a garland of slippers around her neck.

The woman’s son and daughter-in-law, who were away for work, discovered the horrific incident on January 5 and immediately contacted the authorities. The case has now been registered, and Amravati Superintendent of Police Vishal Anand has stated that a police official has been dispatched to verify the claims. The seriousness of the incident has been acknowledged, and action will be taken accordingly.

Vishal Anand also confirmed that the matter will be investigated to determine if there was any attempt to suppress the incident by the local police, with consequences for any such lapse in duty.

The attack, which highlights the dangers of superstition and witchcraft accusations, has shocked the local community and calls for immediate legal intervention.
