Patna, 13th Nov. A provisional voter turnout of 52.84% was recorded in the byelections held on Wednesday for four Bihar Assembly seats—Tarari, Imamganj, Belaganj, and Ramgarh—according to officials from the Election Commission. Voting began at 7 a.m. and concluded at 6 p.m., with polling extended till 4 p.m. at select stations in Imamganj.
The byelections saw over 12 lakh eligible voters casting their ballots across 1,277 booths, the majority of which, 1,196, were located in rural areas. Election Commission data showed that Belaganj led in turnout with 56.21%, followed by Ramgarh at 54.02%, Imamganj at 51.01%, and Tarari at 50.10%. The official stated that these turnout figures remain provisional.
These assembly seats fell vacant earlier this year as their representatives were elected to the Lok Sabha. “Voting proceeded under tight security with a provisional turnout of 52.84% by the end of polling,” said a senior official from the Chief Electoral Officer’s office, adding that the turnout was comparable to the 53.14% recorded during the Lok Sabha elections for these areas.
To ensure smooth polling, around 7,000 security personnel, including 2,550 home guards, were deployed across all four seats. Security forces seized 2,141 liters of liquor from various locations within these constituencies, reinforcing Bihar’s alcohol prohibition, which has been in effect since April 2016. Additionally, officials addressed and resolved three complaints received during polling, according to a statement from the Chief Electoral Officer’s office.
