500 Sniper Rifle Bullets Seized in West Delhi During Traffic Check

GG News Bureau
New Delhi, 9th Sept. A routine traffic check in West Delhi’s Moti Nagar area resulted in the seizure of 500 sniper rifle bullets on Saturday night, according to police.

During the check, officers signaled a motorcycle rider to pull over. Instead of complying, the rider accelerated and attempted to flee, prompting a chase. The rider eventually abandoned the motorcycle near a traffic stop and escaped on foot, police said.

Upon searching the abandoned motorcycle, officers discovered a bag containing 10 boxes with 500 live cartridges of 7.62 calibre. The Moti Nagar police station was notified, and the cartridges were confiscated.

An FIR under the Arms Act has been filed, and multiple police teams are working to identify the suspect. Investigations are underway, including reviewing CCTV footage and tracking the route taken by the fleeing rider.

According to a senior police officer, 7.62 calibre cartridges are used in various firearms, including AK-47 rifles, self-loading rifles (SLRs), light machine guns, and sniper rifles. The officer described these bullets as highly dangerous, noting their ability to inflict severe damage due to their pointed design.

The recovery of such ammunition is concerning, and authorities are intensifying efforts to apprehend the suspect, with each bullet bearing identifiable batch numbers.
