A 22-year-old man reportedly died by suicide on Sunday night after being unable to repay loans he had taken to cover losses from mobile gaming, according to police. The incident occurred in Kadubani village, falling under the jurisdiction of the Kaliapani police station.

The victim, identified as Srinivasa Nayak, also known as Lincon, was the only son of Brajabandhu Nayak. Lincon, who worked as a contract worker at a private mining company, had been suffering substantial financial losses from online games played on his mobile phone.

Police revealed that Lincon had dinner with his family before retiring to his bedroom on Sunday night. When he failed to wake up the next morning, his family grew concerned and knocked on his door. After receiving no response, they forcibly entered his room and discovered his body hanging from the ceiling.

To cover his gaming losses, Lincon had taken loans from various self-help groups in his village, facilitated by his mother. With mounting pressure from creditors demanding repayment, he is believed to have taken the drastic decision to end his life.

The police have recovered Lincon’s body and sent it for a post-mortem examination. An unnatural death case has been registered, and an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding his suicide.

“We are investigating the case to ascertain the circumstances leading to the suicide of the youth. We are also examining his bank records, which may shed further light on the reasons behind his decision,” a senior police officer stated.
