New Delhi, 1st August. Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu on Thursday announced that twelve additional airports are set to implement the DigiYatra facility, which will enable passengers to experience seamless and contactless movement through various checkpoints using facial recognition technology.
Currently, DigiYatra is available at 15 airports across the country.
In a statement to the Lok Sabha, Naidu detailed that while twelve airports are ready to adopt the DigiYatra system, another eleven airports are in the process of preparing for its implementation.
The minister assured that passenger data shared via the DigiYatra app is not stored in any centralized system, emphasizing the government’s commitment to data privacy.
The DigiYatra app, which has been downloaded by over 43 lakh users, allows passengers to use their Aadhaar card numbers to enroll their verifiable credentials and keep their personal information secure on their smartphones.
Despite concerns about data privacy, the app is designed to safeguard personal data while facilitating a contactless travel experience.
The DigiYatra system, based on Facial Recognition Technology (FRT), aims to enhance passenger convenience by enabling smoother transitions through airport checkpoints.
The expansion of this facility will proceed in a phased manner to ensure effective scaling and integration across the aviation sector.
