New Delhi, 18th April.
Raj Kundra, who is the husband of actress Shilpa Shetty, is being investigated by the Enforcement Directorate in connection to a money laundering case related to a Ponzi scheme. The agency has confiscated properties worth 97.79 crore, including a Mumbai flat under Shilpa Shetty’s name. Raj Kundra is not the main suspect in this case.

The scam involves the creators of an investment scheme called Gain Bitcoin, which was launched in 2017. They lured investors with a false promise of a 10% monthly return in bitcoins.

Within a short period, they managed to collect 6,600 crore. The main culprits, Ajay Bhardwaj and Mahendra Bhardwaj, assured investors that the money would be used to mine bitcoins for high returns.

Initially, they paid profits to early investors using funds from new investors. However, when they couldn’t attract more investors, they stopped payments and invested the remaining money in bitcoins stored in hidden online wallets.

The Enforcement Directorate initiated the investigation after receiving multiple FIRs from the Maharashtra and Delhi Police. It was discovered that Raj Kundra received 285 Bitcoins from Amit Bhardwaj, the mastermind behind the Gain Bitcoin Ponzi Scam, to establish a Bitcoin mining farm in Ukraine.

As the deal fell through, Raj Kundra still possesses the 285 Bitcoins, currently valued at over 150 crore. Both Raj Kundra and Shilpa Shetty have denied any involvement in the scam and expressed confidence in being cleared after the investigation.

According to their lawyer Prashant Patil, there is no clear evidence against Raj Kundra and Shilpa Shetty in this case, and they trust the judicial system to prove their innocence.
