226 flood forecasting system to avoid mishap across nation

 

New Delhi: With looming monsoon rains across nation some of the areas are affected with floods like situation damaging a huge loss of property and life. To cope the menace of natural calamity the Ministry of Home affairs have made Central Water Commission (CWC) as nodal agency.

CWC which comes under Ministry of Water Resource is going to monitor flood forecasting station across nation and will be upto date in any sort of calamity. There are 226 flood forecasting stations consisting of 166 level forecasting stations for villages and towns and 60 inflow forecasting stations for reservoirs/dams/barrages in the country.

The minister of water resource Arjun Ram Meghwal on Thursday gave written information about these stations in Lok Sabha.

Existing flood forecasting network covers 22 States/Union Territories and 19 major river basins/sub-basins in the country.
